The Jessie Chorley Sewing Companion
Inspired by the traditional hussif, I created this portable sewing roll project as a cherished keepsake for you to personalise. My hope is it will become your favourite place to keep your treasured sewing tools, threads and small embroidery projects close at hand – whether you’re stitching out and about or quietly at home.
The double-sided, rollable sewing companion is made up of two long, hand-printed templates that form the cover (the outer template panel) and the lining (the inner template panel).
Each panel measures approximately 70cm x 16cm and is made from lightweight cotton fabric. This is the same cotton fabric that most of my embroidery designs are printed on. You will be familiar with it if you have worked on my templates before. It’s lovely and soft to work with!
The overall design of this double-sided sewing roll features a selection of my hand-drawn motifs, inspired by my personal archive of treasured sewing-themed objects.
The cover (outer template) features my drawings of a shoe pincushion, a bouquet of flowers, thread spools, scissors, needles and pins, and a running hare.
The lining (inner template) features more motifs from my archive. I have designed these so you have the freedom to add small pockets, needle storage and other useful elements inside your roll.
I created the Jessie Chorley Sewing Companion so that it can be slowly embellished by you over time, allowing you to add your own stitches, appliqué details and personal touches. There is no need to hurry: this is a project, like many of my hand-embroidery projects, to pick up and put down, letting the embroidery develop naturally.
