Fabric Storybooks 27th-February-2022
This masterclass focuses on my signature style of making fabric Storybooks. You will learn how to use hand embroidered illustration and hand stitched text to fill your book.
We will explore using several of my signature stitch techniques together, including couching, running, stem, seed and back stitch. I will also help you get started with simple appliqué and patching.
The masterclass will start with a short talk by me, Jessie. I will share a selection of my original fabric books and embroidered artwork samples with you. There will be time for questions at this stage of the workshop.
I will direct you both as a group and individually, as I encourage you, the maker, to embark on creating your own stitched and patched storybook in my signature style.
You will be working directly on to a pre-made, linen fabric book, using appliqué and hand stitching as your main techniques. This book, which will have been hand stitched by me, is included in the kit given to you at the start of the workshop. It will measure 75x15cm and can be folded or rolled on the day. Think of my unique, pre-constructed book design as one double-sided long page for your personal story to unravel on to.
I encourage you to enjoy this creative day without focusing too much on finishing your work. Enjoy the day as an explorative and peaceful, slow stitching experience, while learning new techniques and being inspired by my original artworks and materials that surround you. I suggest that you bring your sketchbooks and make notes, so that you can complete your precious book, slowly and mindfully, in your own time.
You will be given a kit at the start of the day, which will include a hand made fabric book measuring 75cm-15cm (my fabric books are long and can be folded or rolled according to your personal story on the day). This kit is included in the workshop price.
